The Low Energy Effective Theory and Nucleon Stability

چکیده
We show that the Standard Model Lagrangian, including small neutrino masses, has an anomaly-free discrete Z6 symmetry. Anomaly cancellation requires the number of family to be 3 mod 6. This symmetry can ensure the stability of the nucleon even when the threshold of new physics Λ is low as 10 GeV. All ∆B = 1 and ∆B = 2 (B is the baryon number) effective operators are forbidden by the Z6 symmetry. ∆B = 3 operators are allowed, but they arise only at dimension 15. We suggest a simple mechanism for realizing reasonable neutrino masses and mixings even with such a low scale for Λ.

Effective Field Theory with Dibaryon Fields: Nucleon-Nucleon amplitudes at NLO
We calculate the nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitudes in the S0 and S1D1 channels at next-to-next to leading order starting from a recently proposed non-relativistic chiral effective theory, which includes dibaryon fields as fundamental degrees of freedom. We restrict ourselves to center of mass energies (E) smaller than the pion mass (mπ), and further divide the calculation into two relative ...
متن کاملAn Introduction to Few Nucleon Systems in Effective Field Theory
Progress in the Effective Field Theory of two and three nucleon systems is sketched, concentrating mainly on the low energy version in which pions are integrated out as explicit degrees of freedom. Examples given are: the extraction of nucleon polarisabilities from deuteron Compton scattering at very low energies; the energy dependence of the nucleon polarisabilities; three body forces and the ...

متن کاملLong-term stability analysis of goaf area in longwall mining using minimum potential energy theory
Estimation of the height of caved and fractured zones above a longwall panel along with the stability conditions of the goaf area are very crucial to determine the abutment stresses, ground subsidence, and face support as well as designing the surrounding gates and intervening pillars. In this work, the height of caving-fracturing zone above the mined panel is considered as the height of destre...
